Most teams now use an AI assistant during the working day. They draft emails, summarise documents and think through problems with it. The limitation has always been the same. The assistant knows nothing about your business. It cannot see your inbox, your CRM, your support tickets or your projects. So every useful answer starts with you copying information in and pasting the result back out.
Zoho’s new connected apps for Google Gemini remove that wall. Once you connect them, Gemini can read and act on your Zoho data directly from inside the Gemini app, with your permission. This article explains what Zoho announced and which apps it covers. It also shows what you can do with it, how it works, and what to consider before you switch it on.
What Zoho announced: connected apps for Google Gemini

In late August 2026, Zoho announced a new integration. Several of its business applications now work as connected apps in Google Gemini. A connected app is a service Gemini can call on when it answers your prompts. Google already offers connected apps for Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive. It has added third-party services throughout the year. Zoho’s applications now join that list.
The Zoho apps included at launch are:
- Zoho Mail – read, search, summarise, reply to and send email
- Zoho CRM – look up leads, contacts, accounts and deals, and use that context in prompts
- Bigin – Zoho’s pipeline-centric CRM for small businesses
- Zoho Desk – access tickets and customer support history
- Zoho Projects – work with projects, tasks and milestones
You authorise each Zoho app individually from Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. After that, Gemini can draw on those apps to answer questions and carry out actions within the permissions you grant.
What you can do with it
The practical value is simple. Gemini can now combine reasoning with your live business data in a single request. Here are a few prompts that become possible:
- “Summarise the urgent emails in my inbox from this morning and tell me which ones need a reply today.”
- “Find the email thread with Acme Corp about the renewal and pull out the pricing they agreed to.”
- “Look at the open deal for Acme Corp in Zoho CRM, check our recent emails with them in Zoho Mail, and draft a follow-up that references both.”
- “Which of my Zoho Desk tickets have been open for more than five days without a response?”
- “List the tasks due this week in the website redesign project and tell me which ones are overdue.”
- “Reply to Priya’s last email confirming the meeting time and copy the project lead.”
The follow-up example deserves attention. It pulls deal data from Zoho CRM and email history from Zoho Mail into one drafted message. That task used to need three open tabs and ten minutes of copying. With connected apps, it takes one sentence.
How it works: Zoho MCP and Gemini
The integration runs on the Model Context Protocol, or MCP. MCP is an open standard that gives AI applications a consistent way to talk to external services and data. Zoho exposes its application APIs as MCP tools. When you authorise a Zoho app in Gemini, Gemini gains access to those tools. It calls them when a prompt needs them, for example to search your mailbox or fetch a CRM record.
Authorisation uses OAuth 2.0, the same standard behind most secure app-to-app connections today. This matters for two reasons. First, you never hand your Zoho password to Google. You grant a scoped permission that you can revoke at any time. Second, your permissions define what Gemini can see and do. If your Zoho CRM role blocks a module, Gemini cannot view it on your behalf either.
Zoho’s MCP servers follow an open standard. So the same building blocks that power the Gemini integration also work with other MCP-compatible AI assistants and developer tools. Gemini connected apps are the easiest way to use them, but not the only way.
Availability: an important note for Indian and international businesses
At launch, only organisations on Zoho’s Indian data centre can use the connected apps in Gemini. Zoho says it plans to support its other data centres too, but it has not announced a date. Organisations on other data centres can still use Zoho’s MCP servers through MCP-compatible tools, such as the Gemini command-line interface. This needs manual configuration.
For businesses in India, the integration is available now. For our clients in the UK, the US and other regions, the capability is coming. You can put the groundwork in place ahead of it: clean data, well-defined roles and permissions, and a clear policy on AI access.
Why this matters more than it might first appear
It would be easy to file this under “another AI feature.” We think it matters more than that, for three reasons.
It meets people where they already work. Zoho has its own AI assistant, Zia, and it improves rapidly. But many people already have a habit around Gemini, especially in organisations that run Google Workspace alongside Zoho. Letting those users reach Zoho data from the assistant they already use removes friction. It does not add a new tool to learn.
It makes Zoho data the answer, not the destination. Managers spend much of their day asking questions the data could answer if it were easier to reach. What is stuck? Who has not heard from us? What is due? When the assistant can query the CRM, the helpdesk and the project tracker in one breath, those questions get answers. Nobody has to build a report.
It rewards businesses with clean, connected systems. An AI assistant can only surface the context that exists. Companies that already keep sales, support, email and project data in a connected Zoho environment will get sharp, useful answers. Companies with half their customer history in spreadsheets and personal inboxes will get partial ones. In effect, the integration makes a strong case for finishing the move to Zoho.
What to consider before enabling it
Any tool that gives an AI assistant access to business data deserves a little planning. Four areas matter most.
Roles and permissions. Gemini works within the permissions of the user who authorised it. Review your Zoho CRM profiles, Zoho Desk roles and Zoho Projects access before you roll it out. “What Gemini can see” should be a deliberate decision, not an accident of legacy settings.
Data governance. Decide as an organisation which teams may connect which apps, and write it down. Customer data flowing into an AI assistant may affect your privacy policy. For UK and EU clients, it may also touch data-protection law. Involve whoever owns compliance early.
Data quality. Duplicate contacts, stale deals and untagged tickets all produce worse answers. If your CRM has not had a clean-up in a while, this is a good reason to do one.
Where AI belongs in the workflow. Gemini connected apps excel at on-demand questions and drafting. For repeatable, rule-based processes, purpose-built automation and AI agents inside Zoho remain the better fit. Think of routing every new lead or escalating every overdue ticket. The two complement each other. Agents handle the routine, and the assistant handles the ad hoc.
How ClubCode Technology can help
ClubCode Technology is a Zoho Premium Partner headquartered in India. We serve clients across India, the UK, the US and other international markets.
